We caught up with make-up artist Rachel Nichols from Nicol’s beauty, and here’s what she had to say.

Tell us about your business?

I specialise in make-up and skincare, have been a licensed esthetician since 2003 practicing in Goa, I’ve always wanted to have my own setup so I began my own business back in 2010 and I have been loving every moment of it ever since.

What made you choose the make-up and skincare industry?

As a part-time freelance artist for a popular talent agency in Mumbai, I quickly realised that the more I knew about skin the more I wanted to learn. It is a diverse field and was excited to experiment and learn. There is no better feeling than enhancing the natural beauty of people and putting a smile on their face.

Would you like most about your job?

Over the years I have been a part of several bridal make-up at wedding’s in Goa and the joy associated with seeing the beautiful bride look her best is definitely what I  most like about my job.

What is unique about the services you offer? And why?

I have had pretty good responses from clients that have done my facials for acne skin. Acne can be quite stressful for people, and I’m glad that I could professionally help control and reduce it for them.

What is the biggest lesson you have learned in your professional career and what would you advise people getting started in the same field?

Skin types vary from person to person and being prepared for anything is my biggest learning. Over the years I have learned that as a professional you need to cover a wide variety of skin types and ages which is to be constantly updated on new products and techniques.

What do you do to relax when not working?

I spend most of my time with my family when not working. I have two little kids and we love and we love spending time on the beach with them.

Any client stories you can share with us?

I recently received a compact mirror as a gift from a client as a thank you gift for being a part of the wedding. She had an amazing bridal party and was so much fun to make her feel the special bride she is.

How do you stand out from others in the industry?

Being a licensed esthetician gives me plenty of knowledge that is required to understand skin better that makes me different from other make-up artists and the industry.
